I would like to introduce myself as the new Chair of Governors here at The Divine Mercy.
I was elected as Chair at the recent meeting of the Full Governing Body. Glyn Young
has decided to stand down after serving as Chair since the school opened; he is though
continuing as a Governor. We owe Glyn a real debt of thanks for his service as a Governor
but also, as a real friend of The Divine Mercy, spending much of his time involved in the
everyday life of the school. He will still be sitting with children and hearing them read as
often as he can.
My role is as a Foundation Governor at the Divine Mercy, that is, one agreed by the Catholic
Diocese of Salford. I have been a governor and Chair of Governors previously in a Primary
and Secondary school. They were the schools that both of my children, now grown,
attended. I did enjoy being involved in both schools, though I’m not sure my children always
liked me being there!
I have worked in a wide range of jobs, but my first love has always been Education. I taught
and led in different settings, including adult education, primary school and most recently as
a lecturer Higher Education in Manchester Met and Leeds Trinity – teaching future primary
teachers!
When I can I enjoy walking in the hills where I live, go outdoor swimming all year round,
mad I know, I also play tennis and love to cook.
We will aim to keep you updated on who’s who and what is happening in the Governors
meetings during the year and if you do see me around school please stop me and say hello. Kind Regards
Eileen O’Sullivan
