COVID19 - Home Learning

On this page we will share ideas and short videos to help you to help your child to learn even more!

If there are any areas you want help on just ask your class teacher.

It starts with some general advice about home learning with young children and a suggested daily & weekly timetable for home learning during COVID19.

It then has sections that cover daily PE with Joe Wicks, communication & language development, specific videos to help you support your child's learning, reading, phonics and mathematics.

Suggested COVID 19 Home Learning Daily Timetable:

In Early Years the majority of the time children spend spend learning through play, having fun, both inside and outside, and we would encourage parent/carers to continue this approach (for outside please be aware of any current government guidelines for COVID19).

By all means do have some parts of the day where you support your children to do some specific learning tasks (eg Maths, English, Creative work etc...) but try and make sure it is fun and if needed followed by a suitable reward.

We would expect children to be able to spend between 10-20 minutes on a task in general, but bear in mind it depends on the task set and how the child feels, encouragement and fun work well! Often we find doing a fun activity can then lead to lots of learning opportunities, eg bake something together and you can then have fun doing Maths (measuring out, counting), English (drawing and labelling what you did), PE (mixing carefully, health & self care - taking about healthy/unhealthy food, being safe in a kitchen), RE (sharing food with others who are less fortunate than us), Science (how ingredients change).

We have sent you a notebook and pencil for home use, our website also has lots and lots of great suggestions.

Daily - English (writing), Phonics, Mathematics, Reading (together - lots!), PE - search for "Joe Wicks daily PE lesson" on youtube for a fun PE lesson.

Weekly - Creative (making something together), Science (exploring, search for "Sick Science" or "thedadlab" on youtube for fun experiments to do or watch), RE - http://www.wednesdayword.org/home/childrens.htm has some fun activities or watch Easter videos on youtube (eg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0PSgoPdKQFQ&t=172s ).

VE Day 2020

Have a look at the video below which explains what VE day is and why we celebrate it.

Why do we celebrate VE day?

Talk to your child about how people might have felt when other countries were not being kind to each other. On VE day we celebrate the day that the countries decided to be friends again. How do you think everybody felt? How might they have celebrated? Talk to your child about how they can be a kind friend. Maybe they could make a card for a friend, or draw a picture of their friends.
Have a look at the following resources from Healthy Schools Manchester. Some top tips for staying organised and motivated during home schooling, and some useful links to further online learning.

Stay Active!
