Year 3 - Our Learning

Dear Parents,

Welcome to the year three website page for classes 3D and 3M. Throughout this academic year we will be uploading photographs and information relating to the learning taking place in our classrooms and beyond. We hope you enjoy seeing all the wonderful activities and look forward to sharing content with you.

Thank you for your support.

Miss Alldred and Mr Campbell

Spring Term 1

Dear Children and Parents,

We hope that you have all enjoyed a wonderful break with your family and friends over the Christmas and New Year period. We are looking forward to returning to school and continuing our studies in the new calendar year.

Thank you for your continued support.

Mr Campbell and Miss Alldred

Friday 26th January - 3M - RE

This afternoon in RE we responded to the learning which has taken place in our "Journeys" unit over the last four weeks. We discussed the seasons of the liturgical calendar, the significance of the colours linked to the seasons and the different events and dates which mark the different periods of Jesus' journey throughout his life. We then made our own liturgical calendars to celebrate the story of Christ which guides us as Christians in our own lives.

Friday 26th January - 3M - PE - Net and Wall Games

Today in PE we were learning to strike a ball in a controlled manner over a short distance. We learnt how to grip a racket and how to hit through a ball whilst retaining an element of control. We then worked in partners to develop our skills over short distances. Many of the children found the lesson extremely challenging as it was their first time using rackets over a controlled distance however for others in 3M dreams of Wimbledon are beginning to shape! We look forward to returning to the courts for further practice next Friday.

Thursday 25th January - 3M - PE - Dance

This morning we continued to link our dance activities with our history and English studies on the theme of ancient Egypt.

We started the lesson by developing our dance movements to the sound of Taylor Swift's "Shake" during our sharks and fishes warm up. We then built upon our last session by exploring how we could use different travelling movements of gods and goddesses to battle through a quest. Our focus was to travel on the quest using different pathways, turns, gestures/expression and synchronicity of actions. We concluded our session with freestyle dance to Beyonce's "Runnin' (Lose it All)".  We love dance lessons in 3M!

Today Mr Marks introduced us to some new notes on the recorder as we began to learn how to play a "g" and an "e". We continued to play some of our favourite songs and refine our skills.

Thank you for the guidance and support Mr Marks. We really enjoy your lessons each week!

SPT1 - Week 3 - 3M - Science

In Science this term we have been conducting our own investigations to develop and deepen our understanding of what plants need in order to grow successfully. Over the course of the last fortnight, we have planted sweet pea seeds, placed them in different locations and observed them under different conditions. We will report our final conclusions on the investigations in due course. Thank you to Stephanie, Leddra and Mr Ellison for the daily observations and watering of the plants.

This morning with Mr Marks we learnt about different types of music, instruments, rhythms and beats as we explored Elvis Presley's classic 1969 hit "Suspicious Minds". Friday 12th January - 3M - PE - Net and Wall Games

Today 3M were learning to consolidate their throwing skills having been introduced to the new unit by Mr Ellison last Friday. We conducted two main activities. First we separated into groups of three and attempted to throw accurately overarm and underarm, bouncing the ball through the legs of one member of each group. Secondly we worked in partners to practice our throwing actions as we targeted hoops from short and long distances.

Thursday 11th January - 3M - PE - Dance

Today in PE we enjoyed our second dance lesson of the term. We linked our learning to our upcoming history focus on "Ancient Egypt" with a particular focus on exploring the movements of different creatures and carrying out travelling actions along different pathways. We had a fantastic time learning with our heads, hearts and hands to succeed within the lesson. The main focus of the lesson saw us explore different travelling routines linked to the different Ancient Egyptian gods and godesses Bastet, Amun and Anubis. Upon completing our scheduled work we enjoyed a little "freestyle" dance to complete our session. Beyonce - "Runnin" (Lose It All) was the track of choice and the finale was enjoyed by all!

Year 3 - Homework

Dear Parents,

One of the key objectives in maths for year three children is to recall and use multiplication and division facts for the 3, 4 and 8 multiplication tables. Using the website detailed in the link below offers the children an opportunity to practice their skills. If you have internet access please encourage your children to use the website regularly to deeply embed the multiplication and division facts.

3M - Religious Education - Friday 8th December

Today we created an Advent craft detailing the Holy Family in the stable as we creep ever closer towards Christmas and the celebration of Christ's birth. Inspired by Mr Cooper's original design  we cut out cardboard templates in order to build the stable before adding tissue paper to create a colourful backing.

Today we used our expansive school grounds to locate surfaces and objects through which we could create exciting wax rubbings. Our school building and outbuildings enabled us to find different textures upon which to create rubbings. Furthermore, leaves and other surfaces provided plenty of opportunities to create an array of intricate rubbings.

3M

Religious Education

This week we began a new unit of study entitled "Choices". On Monday afternoon, we had an extremely difficult choice to make. We all had one vote to use carefully and we could choose for everyone in 3M to have an apple or eight children to be provided with a slice of chocolate cake. After much deliberation and discussion, the votes were cast with nineteen children choosing the apples and eight children choosing the cake. Our lesson taught us that choices have consequences.

Autumn Term 1

Dear Parents,

Autumn term one saw an incredible amount of hard work as year three immersed themselves in their studies as they adapted to the new processes and curriculum content of lower key stage two. In addition to the studies taking place within the classroom the opening term of the year saw exciting school trips to Old Trafford Stadium, Manchester Reform Synagogue and Aldi Supermarket.

Well done for making an excellent start to the academic year children!

3M - Old Trafford Stadium Trip

Dear Parents,

I am delighted to share with you some wonderful photographs of a special morning at Old Trafford stadium.

During the trip 3M met with the author Alan Gibbons and listened to him share experience of his life as an author, toured the club museum and were provided with time to take part in additional fun activities.

We must say a huge thank you to Miss Coyne (reading subject leader) and the National Literacy Trust who kindly provided us with this special opportunity to make memories to last for a lifetime.

I hope you enjoy the photographs!

Year 3 Trip to Manchester Reform Synagogue

Today year 3 went on a trip to the Manchester Reform Synagogue as part of our religious education studies. We met with Irene Gould a member of the synagogue who was happy to share with us some artefacts and describe their purposes. In addition to the time spent in the synagogue, we also explored the sukkah (an exciting hut filled with fruits and vegetables) which has been built underneath the synagogue in recognition of the Jewish festival of Sukkot.

The children behaved wonderfully and are a credit to you as parents and the Divine Mercy as a school.

We hope you enjoy the photographs.

Year 3  - Artist Peter Swidrak  Visit

On Wednesday the 27th of September, year three were visited by acclaimed artist Peter Swidrak who shared his Best of Britain art project. Following an exciting quiz and demonstration of how to produce an exciting piece of artwork, the year three children were asked to create their own pieces of inspirational art work.
