Spring Term 1
In literacy this half term we learned to story of the Three Billy Goats Gruff. First, we found trolls in our playground hiding under bridges! Next, we practiced the story using a story map and actions. Then we acted it out using role playing masks and props. After that we learned about writing letters and wrote a letter to the Troll from the Billy Goats Gruff. We are also working on recognising and writing our names!
This half term in maths we focused on forming and recognising numerals 1-5. We used straws and pipe cleaners to make the numbers, then we practiced writing them. We also used the four basic shapes to make prints and create pictures!
This half term we learned about the church and celebrations that occur in the church, such as weddings. We had the opportunity to visit and explore St. Edward's Church to extend our learning even further. The nursery also role played a wedding to learn about and understand some of the traditions involved. We had a great time dressing up!
In music we loved learning about and playing the Glockenspiel. We were taught how to tap the 'G' key to the song "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" and "If You're Happy and You Know It". We also moved to music in different ways, like snakes and elephants. Then we learned about where our heartbeat is and how it changes after dancing.
Topic - Delightful Disney
We really enjoyed our topic this half term! We learned about different animals from the jungle, and how important it is to stay healthy and strong. The nursery also had the chance to dress up like our favourite Disney characters and build tall buildings for superheroes to climb!
Autumn Term 2
In literacy this half term we absolutely loved learning about the story 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt'. First we learned the story visually using a story map and actions. Next, we acted out the story using face mask props. Then we went on our own bear hunt around the playground and found a friendly bear! We changed the class story to make it our own and then had a go at making our own individual story maps.
In maths this half term we explored numbers 1-5. We learned how to count and recognize each of the numbers. We also looked at matching numeral to quantity, and learned how to count objects up to 5.
In Religious Education this half term we focused on Advent and celebrations, specifically the birth of Jesus. We learned what Advent means and explored the Advent wreath together, making Advent promises. We also looked at what a celebration is, and how we celebrate the birth of Jesus. We really enjoyed acting out the First Christmas and learning about the story!
We really enjoyed visiting the postbox this half term! We learned about writing letters to Father Christmas and then had the chance to write our own letters. After that, we made a local trip to the nearest postbox and each of the children got to post their letter to Father Christmas! We even got a reply from Father Christmas which the children loved.
In music this half term we focused on rhythms. We learned how to make, remember, and repeat a rhythm using both our bodies and instruments. We also looked at how our bodies, specifically our heartbeat, is affected after moving to music.
Topic - Fantastic Festivals
In this half term we explored different festivals and celebrations, such as Bonfire Night, Hanukkah and Christmas. We learned how important these festivals are and we also looked at how people celebrate them.
Autumn Term 1
In literacy we have been learning story maps, telling our own stories, and sharing them.
In RE we have been learning about welcoming people into the church and how we can welcome each other. We visited the Prayer Garden in our school and thought about what God means to us. We said a prayer thanking God for loving us and always being there for us.
Topic - Ourselves
We have been learning about ourselves and how to keep healthy. We designed and made fruit kebabs with our favourite fruits. We enjoyed eating them.
Black History Month
We celebrated Black History Month with dancing, listening to music, playing instruments and designing our own masks.
